Lawmakers Regulate Firearm Accessory Manufacturer Out of Business

Gun News

It is a shame when any firearm or accessory manufacturer has to close its doors. Colt went through its problems and Remington from its losses. We can armchair quarterback what each company did right or wrong, but in the end, it was the decisions of each company’s leadership that was ultimately responsible. Today’s tale is different. Slide Fire is set to announce that it will permanently cease all operations and sales on May 25. Was this due to poor decisions by its leaders? I would certainly say. More likely, Slide Fire’s demise is being caused by politicians in response to the actions of one person, the Las Vegas Massacre shooter.

During the October 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas, the shooter was reported to have used a bump fire-style stock on one or more of the firearms used. Although hundreds of thousands of bump fire systems have been sold, and only one recorded criminal act was purportedly committed using the system, politicians across the nation—including President Trump—have sought to outlaw the equipment.

The Blame Game

In discussions with my non-gun owning friends, I have often pointed out the error of blaming the equipment and not the evil actions of the person committing the act. I can make dozens of comparisons, for example, we do not blame the car when a person drives drunk; we blame the driver. However, when discussing bump fire stocks with fellow gun owners, I occasionally hear arguments such as how bump fire systems are a waste of expensive ammunition or that they do not care because they do not own a bump fire system, so they are not concerned with the regulation. This is a misguided attitude. What happens when politicians come for a gun or accessory you do care about?

Florida recently passed a law banning any accessory that increases the firearms rate of fire. Does that mean any trigger job or short reset trigger is now illegal? Some Florida politicians have admitted the legislation was rushed and needs to be fixed, but once enacted, gun regulations are seldom altered. Do you really believe the Florida politicians will proceed with the same haste to make the corrections as they did to enact the infringing law?

Anti-Knife March

After years of firearms bans in Britain, crimes and killings with knives have reached epidemic levels in Great Britain.

Conclusion

If one piece of equipment can be outlawed due to a single heinous act, or even the actions of a few bad actors, where will it end? Will the United States follow Britain? Will we regulate firearms to the point of effectively banning all firearm ownership? After several years of firearm regulations, edged weapon attacks in Britain have risen to alarming rates. In fact, Britain is now considering regulation on edged weapons. Will this be our future?

I am all for the free market. The success or failure of a business should be left to the consumer and the business’ ability to compete within its sector. In Slide Fire’s case, however, it is not a free market that is causing its downfall. Instead, it is politicians making poor decisions by blaming a piece of equipment and not the person committing the unlawful act. This should be a lesson to us all and cause every gun owner to take a step back and reexamine the threat this poses to the Second Amendment.

Outlawing bump fire stocks will not quench the thirst of feel good politics or the efforts of those bent on repealing the Second Amendment; it will only embolden them for the next attack on our rights. Do you agree? Share your answer in the comment section

  1. Our politicians needs to take a r medial course on the Constitution which gives us the type of government we have. Our representatives are suppose to govern by the use of “Reason and for the good of the people” not by emotions as they are doing today. Now even corporations are trying creat laws and restrict our rights. Wake up people before we have not rights and we become the new Venezuela!

  2. You can not argue with idiots and morons. We the people looking into the mirror should see who is the blame for electing these corrupt parasites and putting the greedy bastards into office. We are now paying the price and our future will pay a bigger price. There will be a war in our home land at some point, when the Patriots have had enough of this strangle hold these corrupt parasites have placed upon the law abiding Americans. When this day comes the Civil War looking back will look like a pic-nic. Remember, over 90% of these parasites are attorneys, writing laws to enrich themselves when we finally vote them in the obis!

  3. Every time the anti gun politicians do anything, they prove what I have sadly come to believe: “We need our guns to protect ourselves from our own government”.

  4. Few understand that leftists agenda is to dominate by corruption no matter where they are active. Don’t be deceived. In any arena where they are given a voice, education, medicine, entertainment, or legislation, this is always the case. Leftists are the enemy of this nation and particularly your children. Their corruption needs to be vigorously opposed wherever it is encountered and defeated. Leftists should never be appeased by those aware of their corruption as is almost without exception the case in our legislature.

  5. The solution is obvious. Ban liberals. Round them up, toss them onto trains and ship them off to the nearest Ralston Purina factories for processing. Problem solved. A lot of the violence would be solved too, since the vast majority of these mass murders are caused by liberals.

  6. I Think it was wrong to ban bump-fire stocks. There are many other ways to increase fire rates besides this. They took action to quick as you stated as opposed to looking for the real cause, human mentality. This will not stop the ones that are bent on causing havoc and taking multiple lives, it is the individual not the firearm! I stood behind our President in his run for office and has done some good. But he caved in the the Democrats and Liberals on this. If he can be swayed so easy on this matter, what’s next??? With his decision, tho I like some of his work he will not have My family’s vote for re-election. If he can give this to the Democrats and infringe on our rights as honest law Abiiding citizens with only one incident is wrong. I think it a Democracy it should have been voted on instead of just flat out banning them. He has taken away the right of ownership of thousands of people, caused the closing of a business and the loss of jobs for many people. I just wander now what he will do with our Second Amendment??? He says it won’t be touched, but in a way it already has with his action to ban the stocks that was already approved by Federal law. Will he start like OBAMA DID? Just doing as he pleases to appease others to make him look good? I’m sure Feinstein and Schumer and Hillary and all the others are having a big Party saying look what we got Trump to do!!! I just lost my Trust in our President with this. When do we start letting children how to run our Government? I’ve been around Firearms all my life, and was taught what they could do. Starting hunting with my father at the age of nine and loved it. A firearm is just an extension in ones hands, just as any other item that can cause harm. I’d like to apologize to all who are connected with the manufacturer and sale of Bumpfire stocks for what our President is doing in closing your business and the loss of jobs!!! He sure made the wrong decision in my belief!!! God Bless All!!

  7. I completely agree with what I am reading. I have frequently referred back to an old argument about gun control from the NRA. Guns don’t kill people. People kill people. But, yet, the weapons, and ultimately, the gun companies are being held accountable. Next. We the people hold the power, yet there are WAY too many morons who prefer to bitch about the politicians while they stupidly continue to re-elect them. Is this simple fact too hard to understand? When a politician is up for reelection, vote for the other person. We may not put a better person in office. But we sure cannot do any worse. That is our power. It just takes more people to realize that our vote does count. Exercise your power. Let other people know that we can make a difference. Sooner or later, even a politician is bound to see the light of change.

  8. When all guns are gone, who or what will Liberals blame then? When will they realize just how hard it is going to be fixed what’s really wrong? Because those hell bent on killing others will still be killing others!

  9. When it comes to listening to fools who haven’t a fart’s chance in a tornado, to think I care about whether or not I am in compliance with some non-constitutional administrative ruling will be the least of my concerns, instead of listening to fools and traitors I exercise ALL my God Given Constitutional rights not caring what some one dimensional regressive politically correct lieberal bureaucrat wants!!! Instead I will focus on, center mass, maintaining fire discipline, and assessing immediate threat vectors!

Let me make one thing perfectly clear, yes I am a Christian, and yes I carry a gun. One might think I carry a gun because I don’t trust God. Well you would be wrong. I have complete faith in my Lord; it’s an oppressive government that believes it has the right to dictate what I can and cannot have, can and cannot think or say, can and cannot eat or drink etc., I have no trust in! ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛABE. Molon Labe

”Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.”

“Taking my gun away because I might shoot someone is like cutting my tongue out because I might yell `Fire!’ in a crowded theater.”

Why is it every time tragedy is carried out by bad people stupid people want to start taking rights away from good people??

Cain murdered Abel with a rock! Lieberals at the time blamed the NRA!!!

    ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛABE.

  10. I was upset that President Trump backed this. He claims to be on our side. This is the only thing that President Trump has done so far that I don’t agree with.
I don’t think that the public has been told everything about the Las Vegas shooting. What are they hiding from us.

  11. Slidefire is a victim of someone who misused the product for evil. Had the product been properly used for what is was intended it would still be available. Perhaps the industry should have put limitations on who it was available to.

  12. We’re paying because my fellow gun owners wouldn’t stick together!! Keep on not sticking together and we’ll lose some accessories and our AR-15’s!! See what happens when you don’t care about everything firearms!!!

  13. let’s see where do we start….why not withe great defender of our 2nd amendment rights. that would be the donald. remember how the great liar boasted his love of this country and the defense of the constitution and the bill of rights. how much has he cost this country? everything is so upside down that school children now are telling the left how to put us in our place. everything is so out of order and who is to blame….why it would be the original user of the blame game. the donald. has any one seen his taxes yet? no and we never will . how does he get away with it. well i going to fight fire with fire and be a blame gamer. whose to blame? why it”s THE DONALD. the great tough guy. why he would have rushed into parkland ,unarmed you understand, and stopped the shooter. oh but wait that might interfere with his golf match. what a joke. we are to blame we elected them now we pay the price. our founding fathers are watching wondering why and when. we should be ashamed

    1. Don’t forget that Obama did his best to take away our guns AND AMMO by making it too costly to buy. He spent millions of tax dollars to buy up as much ammo as he could for ( the IRS and other government agencies. Powder also was hard to find and almost doubled in price. Yet Obama sent guns to Mexico ( Fast and Furious ) and a border agent was killed by one of his guns. Washington doesn’t care about anything that doesn’t put money in their pocket or gets themselves relected.

    2. Well luckieboy, our option was the Donald or Mrs. Clinton, and she promised “Australian Gun Registration”. So- we had no choice. I blame the Republican Party for allowing their nomination to go to Trump. What else could we do? No third party candidate polled high enough to stop Clinton.

  14. luckieboy, would you rather have seen Hillari win the election? I don’t think President Trump is
right in everything he has done – the constant tweets, for example – but he’s a heck of a lot better
than Hillary or any of the ranting liberal clowns would have been.

  15. the blame is with the people, why we let this s–t go on is beyond me. take a stand get out there and make your elected trash know how we feel. during the primary they give you a couple of choices but they lead you to vote for the puppet they want. Forget the two party structure get more every day joe’s out there and on the ballot. An American businessman tried to run against Ryan in Wisconsin but the GOP there did everything in their power to make sure that would not happen it’s time we take charge and rise up against these two corrupt political parties one is just as bad as the other and the Donald is being swayed by them just as you are. GOD BLESS AMERICA

  16. Pack sand dumbocap aka luckieboy- did the libs give you that name when they found u in the alley.
Trump has done more for this fiat economy in one year than 8 years of the LIAR wimp Obummer ever could have.

  17. I listened several times to the audio which was recorded at the Vegas shooting, when it was covered by various news outlets, and the first time I heard it,I was puzzled because it was claimed the shooter was using a slide fire on his weapon. What I heard was NOT a slide fire, but a genuine full auto weapon. There are a lot more questions than answers concerning this atrocity;it seems we have been given few details on the findings of any investigation.Something’s fishy….

  18. Does anyone remember Yard Jarts? Or the 2 acrylic balls at the end of a string with the ring in the middle of them? Those were 2 of my favorite things to play with when I was a kid. (Showing my age) Well some A-hole in government decided the Jarts were killing to many people in there backyards and those balls on the string was too ninja like, so they outlawed ’em. Same deal here, stupid if you ask me. If GOVERNMENT DECIDED TO GET THERE HEADS OUT OF THERE ASS’s. Let people be politically wrong, let the teachers TEACH, I remember when teachers could paddle (3 swats) or go to the principal office was worse. Bullying was a part of growing up, because you had to DEFEND YOURSELF. When getting grounded sucked because we didn’t have TV’s in our rooms, RESPECT was the NORM, WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES were feared by other nations.

We need to be that way again…

The old timers said we were moving to fast back then!!! We are moving faster than the speed of sound now. To many heads are in the sand today and if we don’t watch out, were gonna get are ASS’s blown off.

    AMERICA LET’S WAKE UP.

No one or no country would even consider invading the big bad USA. The ones that don’t believe this SHOULD. WE NEED TO BE FEARED AGAIN. And it was the PEOPLE, the AMERICAN CITIZEN who were feared as much as the government. There was a gun in every American’s hand. Ask Japan’s leader, that’s why he came no closer than Hawaii.

THANK YOU was easy and tought… And, God Bless America

  20. That pencil-necked carpetbagger of a Florida governor that somehow learned to scribble his name has unconstitutionally instantly made felons of thousands of law-abiding Floridians, some whose ancestors were in America before We were a nation. Shame on you Scott! You lose my vote for senator. Go back to Illinois.
