Florida Carry’s 2019 Ocala Open Carry Fishing Walk

Florida – -(AmmoLand.com)- Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 10 AM – 5 PM. Florida Carry will hold its Second Annual Open Carry Fishing Adventure at Ocala Tuscawilla Park 829 NE Sanchez Ave, Ocala, FL 34470.

This event is held during a “free fishing” weekend, which means you can fish at the park without a fishing license.

And under Florida State Law you can legally carry, while fishing (or going to or from), your unconcealed pistol or rifle… even without a Florida CWP!

The irony is that under state law a citizen who is licensed to carry a firearm would be arrested and jailed just for walking around the same park while not fishing, if any part of their firearm became visible from underneath their clothing.

A free citizen’s manner of carry should not be dictated by the government. If you are licensed to carry, then you should have the freedom to carry your firearm hidden or not hidden. Some may argue whether or not open carry makes you less or more of a target, and that’s fine. Let everyone make their argument, but then let everyone make their choice, without the government threatening to cage you like an animal if you choose to publicly and peacefully exercise a Constitutional Right.

Is there any other right we have as citizens that must be practiced secretly?

Florida Republicans have continually refused to restore the right of open carry, stripped away in 1987 by a Janet Reno organized coop held late at night in the Florida Legislature. I suppose RINO Republicans just can’t let go of that part of Reno’s legacy, all the while they get A+ Ratings from the NRA.

Attend this Florida Carry event (no membership required) if at all possible to show your support for your carry rights, and then join Florida Carry for only $25.00 per year.

There are also other ways you can individually express your wish to have the right of open carry restored:

  • 1. Carry your spare ammo magazines openly at any time and place where firearms carry is allowed (perfectly legal under state law, and no local law has the authority to trump it, as ammunition is also under state preemption) – just make sure the spare ammo is not attached in any way to a firearm.
  • 2. Wear a t-shirt stating, “Lawfully Armed Citizen”, or “Licensed and Carrying”. Having a gun pic on it would be a plus.
  • 3. Buy and openly wear a holster that fully hides all parts of your pistol. Technically, the pistol would still be concealed. If the holster doesn’t fit your handgun, then just put your spare ammo in it, while concealing your gun elsewhere. It’s the visible holster that makes the statement for you.

Finally, call and write the office of Governor Ron DeSantis and ask if he intends to take a backseat to open carry rights just like Rick Scott did, as he watched Senate leadership kill all bills that would legalize open carry.

Tell the new Governor you want him to take the lead on this and not just watch from the sidelines while the Senate plays its games.

It’s high time for liberty to shine in the state once known as the “Gunshine State”.
