ILA | Virginia Can’t Afford This Continued Assault on the Second Amendment

Terry McAuliffe wants to eliminate your right to self-defense in Virginia by:

  • Banning the Sale of Semi-Automatic Firearms
  • Banning Magazines
  • Limiting Carry Options
  • Criminalizing Private Firearm Transfers
  • Using Taxpayer Money for Gun Control Initiatives

We need to ban the sale of military-style assault firearms and large-capacity magazines.”–Terry McAuliffe (2021)

In 2019, Virginia elected the most anti-gun majority to the House of Delegates in decades. After these anti-gun Delegates took office, they targeted law-abiding gun owners by ramming through legislation despite heavy opposition from Virginians.

  • HB 961 As amended, is a comprehensive ban on many commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, suppressors, and standard capacity magazines. Though the committee amended the bill to allow citizens to keep currently owned firearms and suppressors, confiscation is undoubtedly still the end goal. There is no option for citizens to keep their lawfully acquired magazines with capacities greater than twelve rounds, forcing millions of Virginians to dispose of their property, become a criminal, or surrender them to the government.
  • HB 2 Criminalizes private sales of firearms without first paying fees. There are no exemptions for sales between friends, neighbors, collectors, or fellow hunters. These proposals would have no impact on crime and are completely unenforceable.
  • HB 812 Arbitrarily rations an individual’s right to lawfully purchase a handgun to once within 30 days.
  • HB 674 Allows the seizure of an individual’s firearms on baseless accusations without a hearing or other opportunity for the person to be heard in court. They permit the government to seize firearms based on weak and nebulous standards of evidence.

In 2021, these same anti-gun Delegates doubled down on failed gun control polices like demanding arbitrary waiting periods and restricting lawful carry by permit holders. Neither of these policies would do anything to reduce crime.

Doubled Down on Failed Gun Control Policies

If Terry McAuliffe heads to Richmond with an anti-gun majority in the House of Delegates, it shouldn’t be a surprise what they are going to come after first…Your Rights.
