Do you know your rights when it comes to gun ownership?

Luzerne County Representative Jamie Walsh, of the 117th Legislative District, along with District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce, hosted a concealed carry seminar in Nescopeck Thursday evening.

The presentation featured explanations of many scenarios and the proper laws behind self-defense.

Walsh says it’s critical to learn the details of gun laws, not just in your state but other states as well, in order to avoid unknowingly breaking any laws.

“The D.A. does a great job and the sheriff’s department does a great job giving real life examples of situations that they’ve seen with their own eyes. It’s really eye opening to the community, said Walsh.

Sanguedolce says that one of the biggest topics he discussed in his seminar is the “Castle Doctrine”, which authorizes people to protect themselves within their residency, as well as the “Stand Your Ground” laws which pertain to situations outside of the home.

“It’s important for people to come out. Number one, to learn their rights. What’s a safe way to carry it? You’d be shocked at how many people just go and buy a gun, never practice with it. Never learn about it, and then one day intend to use it,” said Sanguedolce.

Sanguedolce further adds that if you intend to own a firearm, it’s very important to be educated on all aspects of the second amendment as well as practice using your firearm safely and responsibly.
