A shooting occurred at a lake party at Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma, around 9:00 pm CDT on Sunday night, leaving 15 injured.

A post from the Edmond Police Department’s X account reveals that the Edmond Police, working alongside the Oklahoma City Police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, responded to the scene after receiving reports of the incident.

The police department confirmed that numerous victims were located, and that “Emergency personnel transported 10 victims to various metro-area hospitals. The total number of victims is expected to change as additional individuals transported themselves to area hospitals. There is no update on victim conditions at this time. There are no suspects in custody.”

Reports have suggested that the number of victims may increase, as several victims were also transported to the hospital in private vehicles. Newsweek report said that as many as 15 people may have been injured in the event.

The incident occurred at a party in a popular campground near Arcadia Lake, and the majority of the attendees of the event were young adults. The authorities have spread out to interview multiple victims and witnesses, and one witness reported that three individuals were seen fleeing into the nearby woods. KOKH reported that the suspects are believed to be two young men who were wearing ski masks as they opened fire. There have been no further updates regarding the cause of the shooting.

Edmond Police department representative Emily Ward, however, stated, “This is obviously a very terrifying situation, and we understand the concern from the public and those involved, and we are working extremely hard to find these suspects and help these victims.” Ward also stated that there is no reason to believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.

According to the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA), the laws in Oklahoma are very friendly to those who choose to carry guns. You currently do not need a permit or a license to purchase and own a gun, nor do you need to register your guns with the state. You also do not need a permit to carry a firearm, open or concealed carry.

ILA states that, “Oklahoma’s permit-less carry law allows anyone aged at least 21 years old, who is not otherwise disqualified from possessing a firearm under state and federal law, and who is not carrying the gun in furtherance of a crime, to carry without a permit.”

The incident has caused some debate surrounding gun laws in the United States, and specifically in states with as little gun regulation as Oklahoma, a common occurrence after news of mass shootings breaks on social media. The age-old question is brought to the forefront once again as to what is causing the problem, the guns or the people?

A X user commented in reply to a post on the incident: “Too many broken people with easy access to guns. Thoughts and prayers aren’t fixing our failing system. We need real gun control NOW.”

According to Gun Violence Archive data provided by the Gun Violence Data Hub, there have been 98 occurrences of shootings with at least four victims in the United States in 2026 as of their latest update on April 29th. The question of whether more gun control will help reduce the prevalence of gun violence remains relevant.

As of the latest update in Edmond, authorities have stated that they will provide more details as the situation develops.
