GOP 2022 Statewide Hopefuls Gather in Huntingdon County: Sources tell PoliticsPA that several potential 2022 GOP statewide candidates spoke on Thursday night at the Huntingdon County Republican Committee Spring Dinner. Sources say that the potential 2022 candidates for Governor that spoke at the GOP gathering were Congressman Dan Meuser, state Sen. Doug Mastriano, former state Rep. Dave Reed, Bill McSwain, Charlie Gerow, and Jason Ritchey. The potential 2022 GOP candidates for U.S. Senate that addressed the GOP dinner were Kathy Barnette, Jeff Bartos, Martin Rosenfeld, Carla Sands, Everett Stern, and Sean Parnell.

PA Legislative Black Caucus Continues Call for Police Reform: WHYY reports that members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus are calling for “continued action on police reform and an end to systemic racism after the guilty verdict of former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd.”

Environmentalists Praise Biden Climate Plan, ‘Wariness’ from Natural Gas Industry: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that environmentalists are supportive of President Joe Biden’s plan on cutting greenhouse gas pollution in half by 2030, while “Pennsylvania’s natural gas held a more guarded view.” 

Erie Times-News Reports on Erie County Executive Race: The Erie Times News details the candidates running for Erie County Executive.  

Fetterman Calls on Senate to Pass D.C. Statehood Legislation: Lt. Gov. John Fetterman’s U.S. Senate campaign sent out a press release on Thursday calling for the U.S. Senate to pass legislation to make Washington D.C. the 51st state. Fetterman’s campaign said in a press release that if Senate Republicans try to block it, that Senate Democrats “should abolish the filibuster to get it done.” 

Kenyatta Calls for D.C. Statehood: State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia), who is seeking the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in 2022, sent out a tweet on Thursday voicing his support for Washington D.C. to become the 51st state, adding that D.C. statehood is “about fulfilling the most basic promise of America.” 

Clean Water Action Endorses Peduto: According to a press release from Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto’s campaign, Clean Water Action Pennsylvania has endorsed his reelection bid.  

Morning Call Hosts Allentown City Council candidate forum: The Allentown Morning Call hosted and moderated an Allentown City Council candidate forum on Facebook. Nine Democrats and one Republican are running for the four open seats on the seven-member Council. The candidates discussed jobs, housing, taxes and policing, and more.

Bethlehem’s Dem Mayoral Candidates Talk to the Morning Call: The Allentown Morning Call talked to former City Administrator Dana Grubb and City Councilmember J. William Reynolds about their campaigns to become Bethlehem’s next mayor. 

United Mine Workers Union Supports Transition to Clean Energy: Pittsburgh City Paper reports that the United Mine Workers of America announced their support of President Joe Biden’s plan to “transition the country away from fossil fuels with the caveat of asking for a robust transition strategy for its workers.” 

Denise Williams Selected as Luzerne County Election Board Chair: The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader reports that Denise Williams was unanimously selected by the Luzerne County’s Election Board to serve as the fifth member and chair.  

KDKA Reports on Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Race: KDKA’s Jon Delano reports on the 39 candidates running for nine openings on the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. 

Philly City Council Bans Most Employers From Requiring Screening for Marijuana: KYW Newsradio reports that Philadelphia City Councilman Derek Green’s bill passed Philadelphia City Council on Thursday by a 15-1 vote. 

Chester County DA Files Civil Action Against Mariner East Pipeline: The Daily Local News reports that the Chester County’s District Attorney’s Office filed a civil complaint against “Energy Transfer LP, and its subsidiaries Energy Transfer Operating LP, Sunoco Partners Operations LP, and Sunoco Pipeline.” 

Lamb Named As Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Aviation: KDKA reports that Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Allegheny) has been appointed to serve as the Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Aviation.  

Peduto Commits Pittsburgh To Carbon Neutrality by 2050: KDKA reports that Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto issued an executive order “committing the city to become carbon neutral by 2050.”

KDKA Reports on Party Leaders Looking Ahead to 2024: KDKA’s Around the Table includes former Gov. Tom Corbett, Keith Schmidt, and Joe Mistick talking about party leaders looking ahead to 2024.  

Kelly Comments on Cheney vs MAGA: In a New York Times Magazine article titled, “Liz Cheney vs MAGA,” Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Butler) is quoted saying “You look up into the stands and see your girlfriend on the opposition’s side — that’s one hell of a tough thing to swallow,” about GOP Rep. Liz Cheney announcing her decision to vote to impeach former President Donald Trump. 

Greater Reading Chamber Alliance to Host Virtual Forum With Congressional Delegation: The Reading Eagle reports that Reps. Madeleine Dean (D-Montgomery), Chrissy Houlahan (D-Chester), and Dan Meuser (R-Luzerne) will participate in a forum hosted by the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance held on April 23 at noon.
