When it comes to assault weapons, it is our lawmakers who have long been ‘abject failures’

Second Amendment

(Dario Lopez-Mills | AP) Police walk near Robb Elementary School following a shooting, Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in Uvalde, Texas.

I took notice of a recent article: “Texas top cop: Uvalde police response an ‘abject failure.’”

I challenge this with a counter attack against our senators and representatives. I count them as “abject failures” in doing nothing for years and years.

They have failed to be proactive enough to disallow assault rifles. They have failed with their addiction to big corporate money and National Rifle Association money. They have failed to represent the majority of Americans who do not like assault rifles for sale to anybody irregardless of age.

I openly challenge all senators and representatives from every state to list not ten, but five good reasons why any person would need an assault rifle. I realize the Second Amendment allows gun ownership, but it is very difficult to understand assault rifles as part of this amendment.
