HARRISBURG, Pa. — Former President Donald Trump was in Pennsylvania’s capital Friday to talk to members of the National Rifle Association.
He was scheduled to speak at the group’s annual gathering at the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg.
Trump consistently supported the NRA throughout his 2016 campaign and subsequent presidency.
The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex was already a sea of Make America Great Again hats and other Trump campaign memorabilia early Friday afternoon. People started showing up more than six hours in advance to hear the former president speak.
“I’m a huge supporter of President Trump, and I look forward to getting to share his message and see him live today,” said Kaytee Isley.
For Isley and Lou Capozzi from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, their support doesn’t have to do with the NRA or the Second Amendment.
“I’m really more interested in hearing him talk about how he’s going to limit some of the government overreach that we’ve seen, particularly within the Biden administration,” Isley said.
“I really want to hear how he’s going to unite our country and bring freedom back to this country again,” said Capozzi.
Pennsylvania is a swing state for this upcoming presidential election in November, and in a press call we heard Democratic Sen. John Fetterman admit Trump has a strong base in the Keystone State.
“Trump is going to definitely strike and connect in Pennsylvania. He is popular, it is my home state,” Fetterman said.
Isley says she hopes that support leads to a change in the Oval Office next year.
“I think that there are so many other moms just like me who look at the future of this country and are worried and know that they felt a difference when it was Trump four years ago,” Isley said.
We will have more on Trump’s remarks and the Democratic response coming up Friday night on 69 News at 10.
