Second Amendment

A recent article in the OBSERVER was headlined “New York attorney general seeks to dissolve the NRA.” The New York attorney general sued the National Rifle Association, seeking to put the powerful gun advocacy organization out of business over claims that top executives used monies for lavish personal trips for associates and other questionable expenditures.

Democrat Letitia James filed the suit in Manhattan State Court and highlighted misspending and self-dealing claims that have roiled the NRA leader Wayne LaPierre, from hair and makeup for his wife and a post-employment contract for himself. This Democratic attorney also stated that the NRA has been failing to carry out its stated mission for many years, but instead has operated as a breeding ground for greed, abuse and brazen illegality.

She also stated at a news conference that “enough was enough; we need to step in and dissolve this corporation.”

Simultaneously, Washington, D.C., attorney General Karl Racine, also a Democrat, sued the NRA Foundation, a charitable arm of the NRA that provides programs for marksmanship and firearm safety, accusing the NRA of diverting funds to help pay for lavish spending by top executives.

In a statement, the NRA President Carolyn Meadows labeled James a political opportunist pursuing a vendetta with an attack on its members of the NRA and the Second Amendment.

In my opinion, this Democratic maneuver is just another example of the Democrats trying to eliminate the Second Amendment from the legal gun owners. Instead, the Democrats should be investigating those criminals who possess illegal firearms that one can purchase out of the trunk of a car, and don’t be so liberal on the criminal element in this state.

I think that the Democratic leaders should look in mirror on the misspending issue. They would be very surprised, if they don’t already know, where the money they allocate goes.

Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones just because they dislike certain organizations.
