The Alabama Wholesale Distributors Association, the leading voice of the wholesale distribution industry in the state of Alabama, announced that it has officially endorsed state Rep. Mike Jones, R-Andalusia, in the hotly contested Alabama state Senate District 31 race.
Ellie Taylor is the executive director of the AWDA.
“Representative Jones understands the role of the wholesale distribution industry and its importance to the economic development of the state of Alabama,” said Taylor. “State laws and regulations have a direct impact on our member companies, and I am confident he will work with the Association and our members to develop legislation that will help our companies grow and prosper in our state.”
Jones thanked the Wholesale Distributors Association for their endorsement.
“I am honored to be endorsed by the Alabama Wholesale Distributors Association,” Jones said. “Wholesale distribution plays a vital role in the flow of goods from the manufacturer to the end point of sale for the consumer and I will continue to oppose any unnecessary regulation that places additional burdens on that flow of goods.”
Jones currently chairs the powerful House Rules Committee and formerly chaired the House Judiciary Committee. He is serving in his third term representing House District 92.
Jones is a native of Andalusia, where he and his wife, Kathy Harper Jones, reside today. They are the parents of two daughters. Jones is a deacon at First Baptist Church of Andalusia.
Jones was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in the historic Republican wave election of November 2, 2010, that ended over 135 years of Democratic Party domination of both Houses of the Alabama legislature. Jones served on the Andalusia City Council from 2000 to 2008, and served as mayor pro-tem from 2004 to 2008.
Jones has a bachelor’s degree from Birmingham Southern College and a law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.
Jones is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association and Andalusia Chamber of Commerce as well as a member of a number of community and civic organizations including the Andalusia Downtown Redevelopment Authority, Alabama Easter Seals, and the National Rifle Association.
Incumbent Sen. Jimmy Holley, R-Elba, is retiring after serving 11 terms in the Legislature, the last six in the state Senate.
Coffee County Commissioner Josh Carnley is also running in the Alabama Republican primary for the SD31 seat.
Senate District 31 presently includes Coffee, Covington, Dale and Pike counties, but the whole Legislature will be reapportioned and redistricted based on the 2020 Census before the election.
The Alabama Wholesale Distributors Association is a non-profit membership organization that advocates on behalf of the interests of the wholesale product distribution industry in the state of Alabama including tobacco, candy, HBC, grocery, and general merchandise products.
