None of the half dozen reports of Taliban gun confiscation I’ve reviewed mention the letter writer’s claim Afghan gun owners are also being imprisoned or killed.
The confiscations are, of course, decried by the corrupt NRA and its greedy ilk as the first step toward tyranny.
Ironically, in America, the Second Amendment was enacted to ensure that greedy Southern tyrants could individually suppress the efforts of the enslaved to obtain their freedom rather than depend on government to do so.
Today, people who are concerned about preventing tyranny are fighting false claims of election fraud and the current wave of voter suppression. Unlike the fears of the letter writer, those threats to freedom are a clear and present danger.
Meanwhile, the number of innocent Americans dead and injured by domestic gun owners, such as in the ambush of Deputy Damon Gutzwiller or the tragedy at VTA, climbs daily. It’s hardly news anymore.

The Sentinel welcomes your letters to the editor. Letters should be short, no more than 150 words. We do not accept anonymous letters. Letter-writers should include their full name as well as a street address and telephone number. We don’t publish those details in the newspaper, but need the information for verification purposes. Occasionally, we reject letters simply because we’ve had so many on the same subject. Submit your letters online at www.santacruzsentinel.com/submit-letters.
