Second Amendment – Longmont Times-Call

Second Amendment

Pro Second Amendment means pro well-regulated militia

I am pro gun! I am pro Second Amendment! “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment says militias of citizens may have guns. Well, OK! I’m for that!

Everyone in a militia should have access to weapons. Militias should train members when and how to use their weapons. Militias are well organized and disciplined units. We could not have the best militias in the world without the best organization and discipline. Sure, there is gun sport and hunting, fine. But, no militias without a purpose. No weapons outside a militia. No militia without purpose, organization and discipline. Again, no weapons outside a purposed, organized, disciplined militia.

Every militia and its purpose must be known to all, like the militia we now have: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force. All militias determine the use of weapons by their members. All members answer to someone “above” them in their militia.

Now, some may have a problem with my implying that a militia is the same as one of our armed services. Let me refer to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Militia: “1 a: a part of the organized armed forces of a country liable to call only in emergency. 2 b: a body of citizens organized for military service. 2: the whole body of able-bodied … citizens declared by law as being subject to call to military service.”

Australia did something like this years ago. All forms of harm with guns fell drastically. The same could happen here if the NRA (funded by gun manufacturers) did not own the right wing of the Republican Party.  We are the only country in the world that is foolish enough to allow those who manufacture weapons of slaughter to call the shots in regulating the safety of our children, youth and every-day citizens.
