Outdoors in RI: (Pneumonia edition) The Hunt. 2A active. Vote Gundies. Pearl Harbor – Jeff Gross

Second Amendment

by Jeff Gross, contributing writer

As this is being written this writer is dealing with Pneumonia. 10 days ago, it was Norovirus.  Pales in comparison to what the brave souls endured December 7th, 1941.  Thanks to their sacrifices and the millions of other Americans and Allies throughout WWII, we live free from tyranny.  Though tyrants are always knocking at our doors. More on that in a few minutes.

These heroes of WWII are what kept us from speaking German or Japanese today. Never take being outdoors hunting or fishing, or even hiking, for granted as had we failed in WWII, we would be working at forced labor camps being worked to death until we died, and then only to be replaced by another prisoner. This painful way of life was endured by all allied prisoners of war in the European and Pacific theaters. WWII military sacrifices are why we enjoy the standard of living we have today. Don’t ever take what we have for granted!

The US military is in need of recruits. The US Army recently visited the Westerly High School displaying their Apache AH-64D Attack Helicopters.  The aircraft landed on the Westerly High School football field to the amazement of all the staff and students.  For those looking to follow a musical type of career, the US Army has a very prestigious Marching Band that is always looking for musicians. The Army Marching Band often plays for Presidential events as well as many College and NFL football games. A recruit straight out of high school can follow a great career path and continue this professional and time-honored tradition. All the while in the process of getting a degree in music through some very hard work and efforts. The Hunt

banner

Pheasant hunting has been at its peak for the last 3-4 weeks.  Areas that were prone to coyotes are now seeing plenty of birds after the night’s stocking.  Abby at 13 months old has put up 10 so far this year, and we have taken 7.  She is on track to compete with her predecessors, Chelsea and Haley – both of which would have 13 bird years when 3-7 years old. This past Saturday she put up 2; one was a hen that Jonathan finished off. Abby had flushed it, and I missed with 2 shots, and then she pointed it a 2nd time, and It flew over my head and I knicked it, but Johnathan dropped it with his 2nd shot. 2nd bird in a week for Jonathan.

Later on, Abby had a hot scent, and we were playing Cat and Mouse with a Rooster who had the advantage.  After coming around the stone wall Abby spotted it and tried to pounce on it but the Rooster flushed on the opposite side of the wall and, in typical fashion, I did not have a clear shot. Hopefully, my health will return, and I can get out this weekend.

Orange – not lime!

Hopefully while out hunting I do not encounter any more non-compliant orange people.  Last outing, I encountered a non-orange mountain biker coming southbound on Sweet Sawmill Road. He saw me and turned tail.  Normally I stop Abby when she runs to greet someone, but this time, I let her have at him.  She chased him for about 100yards.  I think he got the message.  Slime green doesn’t qualify as Fluorescent Orange.  Like we say in the Military “Some people – no matter what – do not get it!”

Poop problem

A friend in Florida was asking about how bad the dog waste bag problem is in Big River. So below are 2 follow up photos. The bags are difficult to discern as they are dark green and light green and blend in with the ferns.  Turns out that some management areas are now considered dog parks by many progressives. Simmons Mill management area is a key example that I wrote about 2 months ago.  Worse yet, Eight Rod management area is now being abandoned by many hunters as the vegetation is out of control.  Back in the day this writer with the help of his faithful companion Chelsea put up 8 pheasants on that land.  Today I haven’t hunted it due to the excessive briars that even tear thru hunting chaps let alone dog’s abdomens. Hopefully the RI DEM reclaims this property from mother nature next spring and returns it to the fantastic hunting area it was in the late 1990’s

2A Update

As has been the case the last few weeks a critical court decision will come down at the very last instant on Thursday night, moments before submission.  No gun owner will complain as these decisions are unanimously in the 2A favor.  Last Friday, Justice Amy Comey Barrett ordered the State of Illinois to respond to an emergency filing by some good friends at the National Association of GUN Rights regarding the Illinois AR-15 and Mag bans. Note “ordered” not “requested”. This injunction was prompted by what is called feet dragging, or intentional delays.

The Bianchi case which is an AR-15 ban case that was remanded by SCOTUS back in 2022 and had oral arguments on December 6th 2022 is now well over a year late for a decision.  This is the way of courts today as they do not want to issue a Pro-2A decision.  The thinking in these courts such as the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th Courts of Appeal is to delay any decisions so that Joe Biden will be re-elected and will replace one or more of the 2A justices on SCOTUS such as Justice Alito or Justice Thomas with a Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that any of this is just a coincidence about SCOTUS restructuring. The Progressives want total control over all aspects of life. We here in Rhode Island witnessed it in the RI Mag Ban Case.  The case was remanded back to the RI Federal District Court which will probably be heard a 2nd time by Judge McConnell further delaying any outcome for another year maybe more. I must commend the plaintiffs in the RI Mag Ban case as this case was a slam dunk in the post Heller and Bruen world, but the politics has interfered with the courts doing the right thing! The Plaintiffs have displayed great poise in dealing with the politics of the courts.

These political escapades haven’t gone unnoticed by SCOTUS and SCOTUS may be ready to strike a blow to the anti-gun mob!  Back in early 1990 the NRA had operation “Crime Strike” which sought out the removal from the bench of any judge that was too lenient on criminals.  I think it is time to employ that platform again only this time remove judges that violate their oath on the bench by bringing politics to the court room and thereby violating the 2nd Amendment.

Voting for the 2024 Gundies is underway. Feel free to sign up and vote for your favorite 2A person who is active in the YouTube world in a pro-gun manner.

Favorites of mine: 4 Boxes Diner and Guns and Gadgets are nominated.  What is great is they are nominated in different categories which eliminates the need for choosing between the two as this writer considers both gentlemen as Allies. Voting is free, and you can vote every day.  There is a new youngster on the block: Tactical Mia.  She is a half pint that is doing a great job in influencing the 2A world, Mia is nominated for Most Influential Female of the Year.  She is doing a Great job at such a young age and deserves your support. Vote, here:
