One news article that appeared in the Sun-Gazette on Jan. 19 caught my eye. It describes gun control measures that advanced out of a Democratic-controlled state House committee: Banning the sale of assault weapons defined as automatic and semi-automatic weapons, prohibiting accelerated trigger activation, which increases the rate of gunfire, prohibiting the purchase, sale and production of untraceable gun parts and subjecting 3D-printed firearms to the same regulations as standard firearms.
No firearm fires on its own. The trigger must be pulled. Just ask Alec Baldwin. Pro- and anti-gunners and even the NRA get caught up in the false rhetoric. They are auto-loading, rapid-fire, repeating firearms operated by a gas collection system or a straight blowback system.
Bump stocks and accelerated trigger activators should be illegal. The production of untraceable gun parts and 3D-printed firearms should fall under the same laws as legally-made firearms. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has jurisdiction over all civilian firearms in the United States. Federal firearms laws preempt all state firearms laws. Like state Rep. Joe Hamm said: “If the government can infringe on our Second Amendment rights, no rights can be enjoyed by citizens of this nation.” Amen.
