In 2007, while serving as San Francisco District Attorney, Kamala Harris supported a controversial ordinance that would allow police officers to enter private homes to conduct gun storage safety checks. Harris, now the Democratic nominee for president, made headlines when she argued for surprise inspections to ensure that firearms were being stored responsibly under the law she helped draft.
