House Democrats Join GOP to Block Trump Impeachment Push by Fellow Democrat

news

United States: In a rare but forceful alignment across the aisle, senior House Democrats declared Wednesday they will stand with Republicans to shelve an impeachment initiative targeting President Donald Trump.

“I’ve echoed this sentiment before, and I’ll echo it again—this isn’t the lane we should be barreling down,” voiced Rep. Pete Aguilar of California, the Democratic Caucus Chair, during his regular media briefing. “Alongside my leadership colleagues, I intend to vote to table that measure.”

Aguilar denounced the solo impeachment crusade led by a fellow Democrat as an unwelcome sidetrack, diverting focus from the party’s key argument: that GOP members are systematically attempting to dismantle Medicaid through what Trump once dubbed his “big, beautiful bill”—a claim Republicans have staunchly refuted.

Thanedar Forces Leadership’s Hand

The Democratic camp found itself jolted after Rep. Shri Thanedar of Michigan took to the House floor on Tuesday, invoking a rarely used procedural lever that mandates House leadership to address a resolution within two active legislative days, according to Fox News.

Republicans swiftly scheduled a vote for Wednesday evening to bury the measure procedurally, thus halting any chamber-wide debate on impeachment.

Despite the uproar, Thanedar stood his ground at a solo press event Wednesday morning. He acknowledged the internal flak but refused to retract his challenge.

“Some in my own party have labeled me erratic, same as the president once did,” Thanedar said. “Yet, not a single colleague has confronted me with, ‘Shri, your seven impeachment charges are garbage. They hold no water, they’re legally unsound.’ No one’s said that.”

Aguilar Doubles Down: Now’s Not the Time

Later in the day, Aguilar reiterated his opposition to the motion, emphasizing timing over substance.

“This is a pivotal juncture. Our peers are entrenched in deliberation, pulling an all-nighter to defend the backbone of our healthcare system,” he said, referencing the Energy & Commerce Committee’s marathon budget reconciliation session. “We shouldn’t be squandering time on a motion that lacks merit and urgency.”

He reminded the public that Trump has already endured two impeachments. “Impeachment isn’t a switch—it’s a marathon, not a sprint. The priority today is crystal clear: will Republican lawmakers back our nation’s health infrastructure or not?”

White House Fires Back

When asked about Thanedar’s impeachment gambit, White House spokesperson Liz Huston rebuffed it, telling Fox News Digital that all of President Trump’s actions are “entirely lawful and steeped in the democratic will of the people.”

She added, “President Trump is simply fulfilling what he pledged—tightening border security, drawing in historic investment, and bringing back pragmatic governance,” as per Fox News.

The White House also took a jab at Democrats, accusing them of prioritizing “illegal immigrants over the safety and prosperity of American families.” They branded the impeachment push as a “desperate, theatrical maneuver” that won’t fool the public.

No GOP Support for Impeachment Expected

Not a single Republican lawmaker is projected to support the motion to proceed with impeachment, leaving the effort on thin ice, even within its own party.
