I’m a Second Amendment supporter—and then some. It’s a spiritual and philosophical foundation more than a tactical choice.

My support is based upon the God given right of self defense in every sense, from beliefs to setting boundaries to ballistics.

Despite this, I personally don’t display weaponry unless I’m in a safety situation. Removing nocturnal trespassers or loud loiterers near where I lived came immediately to mind.

It’s also stated as a warning, one given last year over the phone when I told a thug who threatened me that deadly force could be used as possible protection.

That said, I acknowledge open carry demonstrations as well as concealed carry at protests, where legal.

I question the logic of doing so at the kind of trending chaos seen in Minneapolis and elsewhere during the nationwide ‘deportation war.’ Obviously, self defense is a legitimate concern along with escalation by protesters or police officers.

Intensifying concern is the case of the armed Veterans Administration intensive care unit nurse who died during a confrontation with Border Patrol agents in Minnesota.

His demise prompted rare outcry from right side gun rights groups. It further provoked rare public dissent with the Trump administration over whether protesters, regardless of ideology, should be armed.

I follow my ‘first mind,’ to use an old community saying, about the Second Amendment.

Protests or proximity to law enforcement actions are precarious places for this right to pop up unannounced.

I’m not opposed to people exercising the Second Amendment at public gatherings.

My suggestion is listen to intuition and discernment before doing so.

Otherwise, armed attendees, protesters or political ‘rapid responders’ could endanger safety instead of enhancing it.

This fact remains should law enforcement be found at fault after an officer-involved shooting.

Listen to your ‘first mind’ or intuition folks.
